Korky7 Belasis Review

Excellent debut album! Very much influenced by the music styles from the eras of the 1960s and 1970s but stamped with the bands own originality.

All the tracks are originals aside from one Bowie cover track. There are definitely undertones of personal stories and tales in the lyrics.

My personal favourites are : Cyber Girl - very atmospheric and Terms and Conditions - a very personal track, I suspect.

Love the other tracks. Definitely something for everyone in this album!

Watching The Devil Dance (Moses) We’re all living in this world, that keeps on turnin’ We keep fanning flames of hate, they keep on burnin’ Boys and girls from every land Don’t bow down, got to take a stand Choose your side, see it out to the end Time is running out I looked in the fire And what did I see Many more people Sitting with me All been summoned And not by chance Eyes of reflection Watching the devil dance Watching the devil dance Will we pay for a tune from the piper That will sound oh so sweet to that viper The choice we get will have to be made Self preservation execution stayed We are each our own devil and we make this world Our living hell I looked in the fire And what did I see Many more people Sitting with me All been summoned And not by chance Eyes of reflection Watching the devil dance Watching the devil dance Watching the devil dance I looked in the fire And what did I see Many more people Sitting with me All been summoned And not by chance Eyes of reflection Watching the devil dance Watching the devil dance Watching the devil dance

Driving With Girls In Cars (Griffiths) Frannie worked in my local pub Smiling and purring like a tiger cub She was cool! She prowled, she mingled, she was sublime But I knew my car would make her mine And it did! Driving with girls in cars They are all superstars Cruising in the summer sun Looking for a little fun Heads turning in our direction Staring at real perfection And it was! I liked Jean because she’s major league I knew with my car I would intrigue And I did We went for a spin down the main high street With her in the car we were complete Motor love Driving with girls in cars They are all superstars Cruising in the summer sun Looking for a little fun Heads turning in our direction Staring at real perfection And it was! At first I wasn’t keen on Marilyn But I thought her very welcoming And she is Got in the car and drove to Brighton Beach We snuggled up I had a lot to teach About cars Driving with girls in cars They are all superstars Cruising in the summer sun Looking for a little fun Heads turning in our direction Staring at real perfection And it is! When your driving with girls in cars

Cyber Girl 04:47
Cyber Girl (Griffiths/Moses) I am checking all the time To verify if you’re online I have all the social apps Guess I’m just fishing for the scraps Just a picture, a glimpse of you To know that what we had was true What’s happened in your life today Did you like me anyway I can’t hear you, anymore I can’t see you, anymore I fell in love with a cyber girl I fell in love with a cyber girl The only girl who ever gave me time The only girl I ever could call mine I fell in love with a cyber girl Sophie B you came for me I was low, as low can be You picked me up and gave me hope Untied the knots within my rope You came to me through my Virgin line When we’re together, there’s no time When you’re not there it’s so very hard I even revealed my credit card Now I can’t feel you, anymore No I can’t feel you. Anymore I fell in love with a cyber girl I fell in love with a cyber girl The only girl who ever gave me time The only girl I ever could call mine I fell in love with a cyber girl Now I guess it’s time to go What you’ve done you’ll never know Feeling like a silly clown Shutting all my systems down

The Man In The Big House (Moses) The man in the big house doesn’t have any friends There are so many bodies upon who he depends For his soul That’s his goal He spends so much time planning how to extort All those inferior people who he must sell short That’s his way Every day I’ve heard it said He can’t lie straight in bed And he won’t be the one to be true Never known to be wrong Likes to bang his own gong Got no worries he’s gonna’ push through He don’t have time for all of those fools Who are living their lives by obeying the rules They’re all jerks With no perks When will they realise that it’s all about him Touched by a higher being, he will not dim Though they try They’re marching nearby I’ve heard it said He can’t lie straight in bed And he won’t be the one to be true Never known to be wrong Likes to bang his own gong Got no worries he’s gonna’ push through I’ve heard it said He can’t lie straight in bed And he won’t be the one to be true Never known to be wrong Likes to bang his own gong Got no worries he’s gonna’ push through

Slip Away 06:13
Slip Away (Bowie) Oogie waits for just another day Drags his bones to see the Yankees play Bones Boy talks and flickers gray Oh, they slip away Once a time they nearly might have been Bones and Oogie on a silver screen No one knew what they could do Except for me and you They slip away They slip away Don't forget to keep your head warm Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd Watching all the world and war torn How I wonder where you are Sailing over Coney Island Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd We were dumb but you were fun, boy How I wonder where you are Oogie knew there's never ever time Some of us will always stay behind Down in space it's always 1982 The joke we always knew What'sa matter with you C'mon, let's go Slip away Don't forget to keep your head warm Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd Watching all the world and war torn How I wonder where you are Sailing over Coney Island Twinkle twinkle Uncle Floyd We were dumb but you were fun, boy How I wonder where you are

The Rubber Just Keeps Burnin’ (Moses) Let’s go somewhere we don’t know Kick back and let the music flow A drink or two, it’s what we do Four thousand miles will take a while But we can do it in some style A running game, that is our aim Our carriage is as good as home No matter where we’re gonna’ roam Our bus is fine, come rain or shine The road lays down before us now I know we’ll make it home somehow So let’s move on, and sing our song Wheels just keep on turnin’ We’ve got six of them in motion and the Rubber just keeps burnin’ ‘Til one day we’ll meet the ocean Five hundred horses standing by To carry on our journey and the Rubber just keeps burnin’ Want to speak to our attorney? We’ll never be this way again So come with me my dearest friends We’re on the way to who knows where Give me a shout when we get there We take a turn, to make it burn From forest hills to open plains Desert heat, run from hurricanes The folks we meet, the state heartbeat Drive south until the butter melts Jump in and fasten your seatbelts Come on let’s go, it’s time to blow It’s just we three against the world The stars and stripes has been unfurled We will prevail, to tell our tale Wheels just keep on turnin’ We’ve got six of them in motion and the Rubber just keeps burnin’ ‘Til one day we’ll meet the ocean Five hundred horses standing by To carry on our journey and the Rubber just keeps burnin’ Want to speak to our attorney? We’ll never be this way again So come with me my dearest friends

THIS PLACE OF MANY COLOURS (Tulip/Moses) She’s got her tight dress short And her red hair long. Had her nails freshly painted Put her make up on. Tuned up her guitar Checked the songs on her phone Got to work tonight To play her songs alone. A black cloud hangs over The crowd is thin She picks up her old guitar Ready to begin She’s feeling she can’t win White-knuckles to endure Gotta earn those tips tonight She needs them, that’s for sure. In this place of many colours With different shades and hues Just gotta earn more dollars Green bottles and tattoos. In this place of many colours Where you have to pay your dues Just gotta earn more dollars She’s got the Nashville blues. She knows she’s good She often has been told But tips need to be earned Streets ain’t paved with gold The night is slow So she plays a favourite song But it ain’t no silver bullet And no one sings along Happy hour kicks in Tips begin to flow Her mood begins to soften From black to gold She’s hit a purple patch Her confidence is high She’ll be happy for tonight Wave the Nashville blues goodbye In this place of many colours Where it all feels like bad news Just gotta earn more dollars Green bottles and tattoos. In this place of many colours She’s decided to refuse To give in to the siren call Of the moody Nashville blues. In this place of many colours Where it all feels like bad news Just gotta earn more dollars Green bottles and tattoos. In this place of many colours She’s decided to refuse To give in to the siren call Of the moody Nashville blues. To give in to the siren call Of the moody Nashville blues.

Turnaround 05:56
Turn Around (Tulip, Moses) Is a life worth living, just driving a bus? Ain’t got no choice, don’t make a fuss. The 'Mans' in charge, he’s marked your card Just do your time, can’t be that hard. Working so hard, for eight bucks an hour, While the boss just sits in his ivory tower. Eight bucks an hour’s a real bad rate, The tips help out, but they ain’t that great. Turnaround, turnaround, I’ve gotta get out of this town, Go around, go around, They ain’t gonna knock me to the ground. Turnaround, turnaround, Go around, go, go around. This bus ain’t full and it’s meant to be, Just hurry on up, my time ain’t free. This ain’t helping my mental state, No time to think, ‘cos I’m running late. What the hell is going on, I’m doing my best but it’s still going wrong. The traffic’s a pain and everyone’s late, No time to argue, or debate. Turnaround, turnaround, I’ve gotta get out of this town, Go around, go around, They ain’t gonna knock me to the ground. Turnaround, turnaround, Go around, go, go around. You can’t park here, you can’t park there, I’m losin’ my mind, it just ain’t fair. The shouts and screams, can’t stand the sound, I’m moving forward, can’t turn around. One last pick up, on the way Three dudes from England, late in the day. I ain’t of a mind to give a damn But what the hell, they’re from Billingham. Turnaround, turnaround, I’ve gotta get out of this town, Go around, go around, They ain’t gonna knock me to the ground. Turnaround, turnaround, Go around, go, go around. That’s it at last, my day is done, They’re all dropped off, they’ve had their fun. No laughs for me, I’m feeling down, But at least it’s time to turnaround. Turnaround, turnaround, I’ve gotta get out of this town, Go around, go around, They ain’t gonna knock me to the ground. Turnaround, turnaround, Go around, go, go around. Turnaround, turnaround, I’ve gotta get out of this town, Go around, go around, They ain’t gonna knock me to the ground. Turnaround, turnaround, Go around, go, go around.

Terms and Conditions Apply (Moses) When I was a boy, my father said “Son You never stray far from the line But if ever you may, there’s a price you must pay ‘Cos terms and conditions apply” Terms and conditions apply So I drink my whiskey and rye To curtail the pain, but still it remains Those terms and conditions apply With kids of my own, my wild days were gone My family on me did rely I kept my nose clean, tried not to be mean ‘Cos terms and conditions apply Terms and conditions apply So I drink my whiskey and rye To curtail the pain, but still it remains Those terms and conditions apply The children were grown, and soon left our home Me and my wife parted ways Here I sit by myself, alone on the shelf And consider the how’s and the why’s My conditions are few, but what can I do Those terms are so tight I could cry I’ll hear one phrase, to the end of my days Terms and conditions apply Terms and conditions apply So I drink my whiskey and rye To curtail the pain, but still it remains Those terms and conditions apply Terms and conditions apply So I drink my whiskey and rye To curtail the pain, but still it remains Those terms and conditions apply

Staring At The Stars (Griffiths/Moses) Up on the roof staring at the stars I see Sirius glowing, sometimes even Mars Celestial bodies from before time began Distant galaxies for our telescopes to scan 100 billion galaxies we can estimate Orbiting distant suns, one billion earths await Atmospheres supporting life statistically exist Fertile soil and oxygen with water to assist Stars, so dark the night the brighter that they shine Stars, we spent a lifetime waiting to align Stars, we’re staring at the stars Will we ever see or meet life from afar Will they point right at their home orbiting it’s star Sitting up here my heads in a spin Drifting on planet earth looking for a twin Stars, so dark the night the brighter that they shine Stars, we spent a lifetime waiting to align Stars, we’re staring at the stars Our planet sits majestically Third from our sun as we are spun So are we all alone down here Or will we hear from another sphere Stars, so dark the night the brighter that they shine Stars, we spent a lifetime waiting to align Stars, we’re staring at the stars Stars, so dark the night the brighter that they shine Stars, we spent a lifetime waiting to align Stars, we’re staring at the stars

Different Players (Same Old Game) (Moses) The i’s have all been dotted And the t’s have all been crossed But in translation, something was lost Some came with minds so narrow Some came to stand in peace Some asked for fortune, some for release I turn my eyes to the blood red glowing sky And though I’m told, I can’t understand why Tomorrow comes and yet nothing here has changed Different players, same old game The p’s have all been minded And the q’s have followed suit We were all blinded, but still resolute They came to hear the false news To receive alternate facts The slight of hand that always detracts I turn my eyes to the blood red glowing sky And though I’m told, I can’t understand why Tomorrow comes and yet nothing here has changed Different players, same old game I turn my eyes to the blood red glowing sky And though I’m told, I can’t understand why Tomorrow comes and yet nothing here has changed Different players, same old game I turn my eyes to the blood red glowing sky And though I’m told, I can’t understand why Tomorrow comes and yet nothing here has changed Different players, same old game Different players, same old game

about

Belasis are a new Anglo-Canadian Alt-Pop band consisting of three childhood friends whose lives have become interwoven over the years. Mozo, Griff and Chud hatched the idea of recording their first album during a month-long rock n’ roll tour of the States (being entertained, not vice-versa).

Shortly after the trip, Covid-19 struck with all its fears and uncertainties, leaving the boys stuck on two separate continents. However, thanks to the possibilities afforded by the internet, it was decided to continue with the project, while the dust settled on the pandemic.

Originally conceived as a “covers” album to pay homage to some of their favourite artists, it was quickly decided to write some of their own material. Pens scratched on paper, keyboards clicked like stenographers on steroids, and hours of sleep were lost, as the dreaded “inspiration” held no allegiance to the alarm clock.
Demos bounced back and forth across the Atlantic, and it became obvious that there was enough original material to fill the album. In fact, the only cover to appear on the album is David Bowie’s “Slip Away”, which the band had originally started recording before the American trip. The rest of the tracks cover a lot of ground, from Jackson Browne type ballads to Bowie pop via 21 Pilots and Hawkwind style synths.

A constant feature of a Belasis song is a banging chorus. They like to leave a lasting impression, so listeners will want to come back for more.
Belasis (the name taken from a family that settled in the boys beloved Billingham in the 13th century) are excited to announce the release of their first album, “Wasters & Ne’er-Do-Wells”.

“Wasters & Ne’er-Do-Wells” – the soundtrack of our lives (so far)!
